Our old town hall, located in the heart of the Old Town, celebrated its 600th anniversary with dignity and received the European Union Cultural Heritage award from the hands of the Spanish Queen in 2006. The magnificent building of the town hall is decorated not only with an openwork arcade and a tower with the famous symbol of the city - “Old Thomas”, but also with two dragon heads with mysterious power.
Many secrets will unfold before you: who and how ruled the ancient city, what the city traded, how and according to what laws people lived in the old days, what clothes they wore and who was allowed to have the longest toe of shoes and the highest cap, where did the righteous judgment take place, where and how the executions were carried out, for which punishments were imposed, where there were large and small pillars of shame, at which the most courageous could not only stand, but also take pictures.
The Gothic vaults of the main hall of the town hall, decorated with the bright “Christmas tree” color pattern of the Hanseatic trading cities, will appear before you in all their splendor. Here you will learn not only the purpose of all the premises of the main administrative building of Tallinn, but also what dish was especially solemnly served at medieval feasts.
At the end of the excursion, you can taste wild meat soup in the town hall prison.
