If you find yourself in the city on June 19 and 20, then in the morning at 11.00 you can enjoy one of the main holidays of Toledo, and in the evening we will walk along the narrow streets, bridges and different districts of this amazing city.
The Feast of Corpus Christi is one of the most significant Catholic holidays, I will tell you about its origin and traditions associated with it. In Toledo, this holiday is celebrated magnificently. A week is being prepared for the citywide celebration. On the way of the religious procession, tents are erected, all the balconies of houses are decorated with flags and flowers, the walls of the buildings - with carpets, and the main cathedral - with ancient tapestries. Participants in the procession are dressed in ancient costumes, and the streets are strewn with caraway seeds and rosemary. The Tabernacle of the 15th century is taken out of the cathedral.
"Giants" and "Bigheads" take part in the festive processions. "Giants" - tall, 3-4 meters long dolls in bright clothes, they represent different characters: biblical (Herod, Goliath), historical (Caligula, Tiberius, Nero), or allegories of any idea. Among the "giants" there are also purely Spanish characters: Sid Campeador or medieval kings, about whom there is also a story to tell.
