Program
You will learn the legend about the construction of the local "Leaning Tower of Pisa" and the story of the miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary, on the site of which the second tallest church in the country was built. Why, on the one hand, is this church always black, although it is built of white stone, and why do the neat Dutchmen not even try to clean it?
If desired, we will visit the burial place of members of the royal family. I will tell you how the ceremony goes, what is the symbolism of the main mausoleum of the kingdom and what a scandal once happened! Together we will discover the longest bridge-street in the whole kingdom, where the count's residence was once.
You will learn about famous locals:
- about the city blessed and her power of faith;
- about a great jurist who cleverly escaped from an impregnable fortress;
- about the artist Vermeer and his marriage;
- the murder of William the Silent and the reason why he received such a nickname;
- and even about the local liar, to whom the whole district was going to listen.
Delft is the birthplace of porcelain, which was used to decorate all fireplaces and stoves in the Russian palaces of Peter the Great. Here you will find famous china on every corner: in tourist shops, in a china factory or in antique shops.
During the tour you will see:
- The Old and New Churches, the Royal Tomb;
- Prinsenhof (residence where William of Orange was killed);
- the monument to Hugo Grotius;
- the Vermeer Museum;
- an old prison, a town hall and a weighbridge;
- the longest street bridge;
- a monument to the local blessed;
- orphanage for girls;
- an old chapel;
- the smallest house in the city;
- fish rows.
Optionally, we will visit a Delft porcelain factory.
