You have to make a trip to the prehistoric world - you will visit one of the largest karst tunnels in the world. Once upon a time, Neanderthals lived here - many finds prove this, and the cave itself even got into the frame of the National Geographic film about primitive people. On the excursion, you will also enjoy the views of the picturesque canyon, see the ruins of the 17th century fortress and, of course, dine at a fine local restaurant. Individual excursion for 1-10 people Duration 7 hours Children Possible with children How it goes On foot Rating 5 on 5 reviews € 90 per excursion Price for 1-12 people, regardless of the number of participants

What awaits you

Journey to the primitive world A long time ago, thousands of years ago, wind and water made a wonderful creation in the Imeretian rocks - one of the largest karst tunnels in the world. Soon there are plans to implement a long-standing, still Soviet project - to make an observation deck and bring the steps to the cave. But for now, this is a part of the wild subtropical Georgian forest and a walk through these natural places will open you Georgia from a completely different side - in addition to a strong tradition of winemaking and mighty ancient temples, there are a huge number of objects to explore. For example, a multi-thousand-year-old cave, at different levels of which amazing traces of the distant past never cease to be found

Unique residential complex of Neanderthals The main cave is a huge through tunnel into which the Shabatagele River flows. Crossing the river ford, we find ourselves in the main hall, which is divided into three floors - this is an indescribable sight. In the cave, you will see a huge ceiling up to 60 meters high, still covered with soot from the Neanderthal fires. At an unimaginable height in the sheer cliffs, there are up to 14 floors, representing a single residential complex of prehistoric times. If you're lucky, you'll find a flint shard or an ancient fire pit where they cooked food. And at the end of the cave you will find a hall with fossilized honeycombs of wild bees

Something else The excursion will end with a walk along the picturesque canyon of the Shabatagele River and a tour of the ruins of a 17th century fortress. Then I will take you back to Kutaisi, where you can have lunch at one of the local restaurants.
