What does multifaceted Prague hide from the eyes of travelers, a city where the spirit of centuries-old history is intricately intertwined with modernity? I will show you the capital of the Czech Republic on behalf of sculptors and painters and tell you what the inhabitants of the city think about contemporary art. You will see the Dancing and Mosaic Houses, the Shitkov Tower and the Manes Gallery. You will also meet the Czech master of provocation David Cerny. You will understand why he "revives" drainpipes, laughs at popular monuments and turns Franz Kafka into the hero of his own work. Group excursion Duration 2.5 hours Group size up to 10 people Children Allowed with children How it goes On foot Rating 4 on 5 reviews € 19 per person

What awaits you

Contemporary art in an urban environment The walk will start from the cultural center of Prague: we will walk along the embankment near the Manes gallery and along the Slavyansky Island, where the majestic Sitkovskaya water tower rises. I will tell you why the gallery of modern art appeared on the site of the mills and how the Prague Tower is connected with the Leaning Tower. To understand how contemporary art adapts to the urban environment, let's go to the Mosaic House. You will admire the huge fly agarics at the entrance, on the facade you will see wonderful flies and caterpillars, and if you look up, you will notice the figures hovering over the street. On the way, you will meet the Dancing House, learn about its connection with the former president of the Czech Republic, and find out why the locals call the building in the style of deconstructivism "drunk"

In the footsteps of the scandalous sculptor You will follow the route of the main figure of modern Prague sculpture - David Cerny. You will visit the Lucerne Passage and see the figure of St. Wenceslas riding an inverted horse. Get to know the famous "transformation" of Prague art - the giant head of Franz Kafka. I will explain how sculpture resonates with the writer's work and why the "transformation" motif is so important for contemporary art. You will also visit the mystical island of Kampa, learn how David Cerny "revived" the drainpipe near the building of the Prague theater, and figure out why Lenin is constantly recognized in the sculpture dedicated to Sigmund Freud.
