Saratov is one of the provincial modern capitals. On a walk, you will see the relics of the Belle Epoque hidden from the eyes of tourists and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of past centuries. We will examine five architectural monuments and talk about the peculiarities of the style, former residents and the history of urban planning. What awaits you
Modern, Art Nouveau, Art Nouveau in Saratov style Each building will show one of the facets of the architectural style: interest in European Gothic, and the search for their roots, and the desire to find inspiration in distant Egypt. The walk will connect us with the key figures of Russian Art Nouveau - Fyodor Shekhtel and Savva Mamontov. In parallel, you will learn about two original Saratov architects - Semyon Kallistratov and Petr Zybin, who created their own versions of Art Nouveau. We will talk about their special vision and approach, as well as about the owners of the buildings - a Russian merchant, a fashionable lawyer and a German industrialist, whose lives have reflected the fate of the city
I will try to alternate the dramatic episodes with the ones that can bring a smile. And at the end I will tell you in which direction you can continue your walk through the Saratov Art Nouveau, if you want to walk on your own.
