Cave temples, palaces and towers On the way to the ruins of the ancient city, you will see the remains of a Karaite cemetery and a picturesque lake, consider the traces of a deadly battle between the inhabitants of the principality of Theodoro and merciless conquerors. Next, I will show all the most important places of medieval Mangup: the remains of the fortress wall and towers, the palace of Prince Alexei, the ruins of the Basilica, the largest Christian temple of the ancient city, and the Church of Constantine and Helena. I will tell you what German archaeologists were looking for in Mangup during the Great Patriotic War, and I will help you find the Camp Balka, where the tents of the Mangup archaeological expedition stand in the summer
Citadel and gorgeous views of the surroundings At the Teshkli-Burun cape, you will see the ruins of the main tower of the Mangup citadel and the defensive casemates carved into the thickness of the rock. And from the point where the watchtower once stood, enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Next, you will walk along the southern slope of the plateau, where I will show the foundations of houses right in the rock massifs, underground rooms, artificial caves and reservoirs for grape pressure. The excursion will end in the village of Khoja-Sala, where, if you wish, you can have lunch in one of the local cafes.
Organizational details
- Travel expenses are not included in the excursion price. We get to Mangup by your car or rented transport. You can climb the plateau on foot or in an SUV rented at the foot of the plateau. Specify the cost in a personal message.
- Entrance tickets to the citadel are not included in the price - 100 rubles per person
- If desired, we can include in the excursion a visit to the active South Cave Monastery
