What awaits you

Atsagatsky datsan: immersion in the culture of the Khori-Buryats Our way to the first stop will pass along the picturesque valley of the Uda River. On the way, you will hear historical stories related to the Khori-Buryats - the indigenous inhabitants of these places and an important part of the Buryat ethnos. Soon we will get to the Atsagatsky datsan, which in the past was considered the center of printing and medicine: once even Emperor Nicholas II visited it. We will talk about the history of the datsan, the neighborhood of Buddhism and shamanism, together we will understand the customs of local residents and reveal the secret of the rapid development of Buddhism in Buryatia

Trekking to the 33-meter Buddha image After a hearty lunch in a cafe, we will continue to the foot of Mount Bayan-Khongor, where you will have to do a little trekking. Our goal is a colorful 33-meter image of Shakyamuni Buddha, the largest in Russia. A wonderful road leads here through a coniferous forest and mountain slopes: in total, you will overcome about 7 km in both directions. We will discuss why Buddhists create such places, what rituals are performed here, why the gigantic image of Buddha became popular with local residents and how it appeared. And if time remains, on the way back you will visit a couple more places where you can feel the magic of the Siberian forest and see Buddhist buildings.
