What awaits you
As Yaroslavl Maslenitsa celebrated How did our ancestors see off the winter and prepare for Great Lent? Why did the pagan rite migrate to the Orthodox calendar? And how does the "narrow" Maslenitsa differ from the "wide" one? During the walk, we will reveal the traditions and symbols of the colorful Slavic holiday. Let's talk about Maslenitsa treats, find out where the fistfights took place in Yaroslavl and where the pillars were erected, on which the fellows competed in strength and dexterity. And we will certainly drop by the open-air art festival with an exhibition of Maslenitsa dolls
Architectural symbols of the city The route of our walk will cover almost the entire historical center of Yaroslavl. On the way, we will meet the snow-white Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, the country's first theater and an incredible scattering of Yaroslavl churches: the Churches of the Epiphany, Michael the Archangel, Savior on the City and the Church of Elijah the Prophet on the main square. And of course, we will admire the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin on the Strelka - at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl rivers. The stories and details of the temples will help us complete the bright, light and distinctive image of ancient Yaroslavl.
